Comparing my model development and subsequent
marketing plan with that of a modeling school as well as the cost to
benefit ratios.
In my opinion, modeling schools are a waste of time
and money. The reason for this is, in print work, the commercial
photographer doing the shoot directs the model. It is his job to
illustrate the advertisement. What you have to do is to prove you
can take detailed direction and look commercial, not in generic
classes but in front of the camera. With great direction, your proof
sheets will show you your best poses.
No model can know exactly how they look in front of the camera but a
directing photographer does. Therefore, quality of direction to
conceal the negative and reveal the positive is extremely important.
This is where I come in. Take a detailed look at my "un-retouched"
before and after photos and you will know no one can teach you how
to present yourself at your very best like I can.
When I do your
hair, make up and photography, I direct you with such detailed
interaction you look like a seasoned and relaxed Pro. If you depend
on classes to teach you generic poses, you will look like a generic
small town model. Some aspiring models cannot tell the difference.
Those people I never see. Some people are impressed with expensive
furniture and a well-decorated office with pretend cosmopolitan
photos. Keep in mind I worked in Hollywood for 11 years as well as
short stints in Paris and London for many years. I’ll put my
un-retouched work up against any in this country or abroad. Why do I
live here? I have traveled the world and I like it here.
If you rely on a model agency, especially a
modeling school agency in a small market you will have to stand in
line to land a job. My way stated above, you go directly to the
people who hire models and you save agency commission and in the end
you have spent about 1/5th as much as you would have spent with many
modeling schools with much, much better results. Even with my more
efficient method of model marketing, there is no guarantee of the
volume of work to be had.
Many of the modeling
schools' photos that they show are heavily retouched and
unrealistic. Glamorous perhaps, but not practical. My photos can
be achieved with makeup and their retouched photos cannot.
